		<description>There are a whole range of levels that you could propose answers to this question from... some could call it Karma, although I think thats become an obsolete rational. Some could say its because we wanted to learn or test the conviction we have in ourselves. Still others could say its about learning equanimity and surrender and acceptance of what is. I&#039;d personally go for the latter. There are a whole host of perspectives we could take here. 

The Serenity Prayer goes something like this:

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can,
and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time, Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace.
